Location
Fig Tree Barn is located in an area of outstanding natural beauty on the southern side of Dartmoor National Park. Situated just north of the small market town of Buckfastleigh and around 12 minutes from the A38 The Devon Expressway linking Exeter with Plymouth.
The Barn enjoys an enviable countryside location in a small rural hamlet of pretty cottages, quiet country lanes and decorative hedgerows. The hamlet of Lower Combe nestles in a valley surrounded by a patchwork of rolling fields of sheep and cattle, so typical of Devon’s fabulous countryside.
The river Mardle meanders through the valley and close to the barn in a deep granite gorge, although there are some paddle spots and a simple river beach. The historic stone arched bridges over the river are a popular feature of Lower Combe.
Fig Tree Barn provides the ideal base from which to explore the whole region. From the wild open moorland with it’s rugged granite outcrops known as tors, to the stunning Devon countryside to the impressive South Devon coastline with its popular sandy beaches, coastal towns and boating facilities.
Fig Tree Barn is perfectly situated for those who enjoy outdoor pursuits and nature. The location offers fabulous opportunities for walking, pony trekking, biking, canoeing, swimming, sightseeing or just simply relaxing. We are right beside two important routes. For walkers the Two Moors Way and the High Moor Link for cyclists..
The local area has numerous beauty spots within a short distance and the numerous sandy beaches and south west coastal path of the renowned South Devon coastline are within easy reach.
Within a 10 minute walk of the barn through the country lanes is a traditional village pub in the village of Scorriton and about a 20 minute walk away is Holne with its community run shop & tearoom and a further newly renovated pub.
The local towns of Ashburton, Buckfastleigh and Totnes provide a wide array of excellent independent shops, artisan food, pubs and great places to eat..
